Survey a small set of common TCP ports
CompletedWhat you are learning
Perform a TCP connect scan against only the configured target and a small fixed set of common service ports.
- Perform a constrained survey of common TCP ports against an explicitly authorized target.
- Identify which tested ports are open and distinguish observed exposure from assumptions about the underlying software.
- Translate validated observations into concise, evidence-based findings.
Organizations routinely expose network services for administration and application access. Knowing which ports are reachable is an important part of understanding attack surface. Defenders use the same information to detect unnecessary exposure, validate firewall policy, maintain asset inventories, and prioritize remediation.
Follow the exercise instructions provided by the trainer for this lesson.
Authorized reconnaissance action
Commands, flags, ports, and targets are fixed by the trainer. The participant cannot enter arbitrary shell commands.
Enter one finding per line. Identity and condition are locked by the facilitator.
An open port means a network service accepted a connection. It does not establish that the service is vulnerable or that access is authorized beyond this lab exercise.
A sequence of connection attempts across several ports from one source is a common network-scanning signal.
